Singing lessons for kids in Bogotá and online

A child's voice is lighter and higher than an adult's, and singing lessons develop it through play: songs, imitation, breathing and pitch exercises, without strain. A teacher comes to your home in Bogotá and the surrounding area, or teaches by video call. Vocal care is the biggest difference when teaching children.

What lessons for kids are like

  • A child's voice isn't a small adult voice

The goal is for your child to sing freely, in tune and with enjoyment, rather than to sound grown-up. The teacher doesn't push for vocal power or ask children to imitate the adult singers they hear on the radio.

  • Songs in a comfortable key

The best way to protect the voice is to change the song's key so it sits in a comfortable range. The teacher can do this in minutes. If a movie song or ballad calls for high notes suited to an adult voice, lower the key or save it for later.

  • Learning technique through play

Breathing practice involves blowing a feather or making bubbles. Warm-ups use gentle siren sounds and lip trills that sound like a motor. Pitch work starts with repeating two- or three-note patterns.

  • Watch for warning signs and voice changes

If your child ends up hoarse, raises their chin or turns red, the teacher stops and reviews the repertoire. The voice changes during adolescence: singing continues gently, within whatever range feels comfortable at the time.

Your first month, lesson by lesson

  1. Lesson 1: the teacher listens to your child sing a familiar song, without pressure, and they play breathing games.
  2. Lesson 2: warming up with gentle vocal sirens and working on posture, with feet firmly planted and shoulders relaxed.
  3. Lesson 3: repeating short patterns of two or three notes and working on a song phrase by phrase, in a comfortable key.
  4. Lesson 4: the whole song, recorded on a phone to listen back, plus vocal care habits for home.

What to expect to learn

  • Breathe calmly without raising your shoulders.
  • Warm up the voice with gentle sounds.
  • Singing short patterns and simple songs in tune.
  • Singing in a comfortable key without shouting or straining.
  • Caring for the voice at home, at recess and at karaoke.

Tips for parents

  • Learn the signs of vocal strain: a tense neck, a red face, a raised chin or hoarseness after singing. If they appear, have your child stop, drink water and rest.

  • Adjust the key of karaoke tracks before singing and keep the volume moderate. Avoid shouting from one room to another.

  • If hoarseness lasts several days, keeps coming back, or comes with pain, consult your pediatrician. A singing teacher teaches technique but does not diagnose.

Frequently asked questions

At what age can a child start singing lessons?

From age 6, children can explore their voices through play. Individual lessons usually work best from age 7 or 8, when your child can follow instructions and practice a little at home. Before that, early music education and choir help children develop their voices through playful activities.

Can my child sing their favorite songs?

Yes. The teacher adapts the music your child likes: lowering the key, singing with a light voice, and reviewing the lyrics. Some ballads written for adults can be too demanding and are saved for later. We explain this in singing for kids: how to care for their voices.

What happens when their voice changes?

There's no need to stop singing. Ease up on the demands, sing in the range that feels comfortable today, and adjust keys and repertoire with the teacher. Voice cracks are part of the process. It's a good time to add music reading or an instrument for self-accompaniment, such as piano.

Do online singing lessons work for kids?

Yes. An adult should help with the camera and audio during the first few lessons. Because of the video call delay, your child won't sing at the same time as the teacher: they take turns or use backing tracks. Use headphones to hear better. See online music lessons.

Would you rather we message you?

Leave your name and WhatsApp number. We'll message you to understand what you're looking for and recommend teachers and times. No commitment.
