Admission to Music at EAFIT: theoretical examination, listening and how to prepare

What undergraduate EAFIT's Music looks like

Music is a private, presential and full-time undergraduate of the School of Arts and Humanities, in Medellín (SNIES 4959). It lasts 9 semesters and, according to the program's page, allows you to follow the paths of classical interpretation or jazz, composition or direction as well as training you in management of artistic projects.

A figure that we did not find in the current report is the exact title awarded by the program. A previous version of the program's frequent questions referred to as an instrumental musician, composer or director, and have them with the university if it's important to you.

What's the Readmittance to Music?

1. Online registration On the Epik platform. On the form you choose the emphasis that you wish to put.
2. Documents: certificate of notes from the last two years issue, document of identity and the result of Know 11 or its registration code (CA).
3. Test date: at Epik, at Services and Certificates > Service Request > Retirement exam.
4. Group theoretical examinationThat day they'll report your audition schedule.
5. Individual hearing as an emphasis chosen.
6. Outcome: If you are not admitted, the guide indicates that you can re-run the following semester.

For other undergraduates, EAFIT evaluates an interview and the school's notes (with the Know 11 as a complement). For Music, the 2027-1 guide is explicit: selection takes into account only the result of the entrance exam. Also, you have to give notes and Know 11 as part of the registration.

The group theoretical exam: what's known and how to prepare it

The current guide only says that it's a group and face-to-face theoretical examination. It doesn't publish a topic, duration, scores or if anything's an elimination. A previous version of the program's frequent questions referred to an examination of musical aptitude and basic knowledge of musical reading, complementary piano, music and instrument history and take it as an official issue.

While you confirm the issue with the university, prepare the basis that demand most theoretical music tests in Colombia:

• Grammar: Sunand Fa keys, figures and compas, bigger and minor branches, scales, intervals and triades.
• Reading: Rhythmic and tipsy reading of simple fragments at first glance.
• Heard: To recognize intervals, greater and minor chords and write short dictations.
• Basic Piano: place yourself at the keyboard and play simple scales and chords, if the complementary piano appears.
• History of music: periods, composers and main styles of the repertoire that you play.

The hearing as emphasized

The hearing is individual and depends on the emphasis that you chose on the form. EAFIT currently does not publish the instrument repertoire on its page. The earlier version of its frequent questions indicates that the dedicated repertoire was given by the headquarters of the Department and that works with contrasting movements and with different periods should be prepared. How to prepare for admission to Music at EAFIT

1. Requests official requirements from your emphasis and instrument and the agenda from the theoretical examination to the program, in writing.
