  • The National District ASAB, the Pedagogic District, Javeriana, Los Andes, El Bosque and the Central District are among them.
  • Outside of Bogotá there are programs in Medellín, Cali, Ibagué, Bucharest, Manizales, Barranquilla, Pasto, Pereira and Popayan.
  • Almost every race requires a specific music test, as well as high school and knowledge 11.

The title of Master in Music is an undergraduate, and not a master's degree. The confusion is so common that we dedicated a complete guide to him: Master in Music or Master in Music?.

Before the university there are also training without a title that's worth a lot: the Municipal Music Schools of the National Music Plan for Coexistence, the Batuta National Foundation, the Medellín Network of Musics and the preparations of the universities themselves.

Emphasis: what can you specialise within the race

The emphasis defines a good share of your subjects and often also your admissions test. These are examples of revised information:

Emphasis as you care
If you're interested...He looks for an emphasis as...Examples
Play or sing at a professional levelInterpretation or instrumentASAB, Javeriana, Univalle, Antioquia; Instrumental Music at National
To create musicComposition, arrangements, creation and production of songsNational, ASAB (Composition and Arrangements), Javeriana, Univalle
To conduct orchestras, choirs or gangsAddressNational, ASAB, Javeriana, Univalle, Banda's leadership at the Cauca's
Jazz and popular musicJazz, popular musicNational (Jazz), Javeriana (Jazz and Popular Music), EAFIT (Jazz)

TeachMusic education, pedagogy, degreeThe Licenseys and Javeriana (Music Education) and National (Research in Instrumental Pedagogics)

Not all universities define the emphasis at the same time. In the Andes, for example, instrument listening for the line of interpretation arrives after admission, even at the end of the first semester.

Public or private university?

General public and private differences
AspectoPublic (National, ASAB, Pedagogic, Antioquia, Univalle...)Private (Javeriana, Los Andes, El Bosque, Central, EAFIT...)
CostoOverall, lower platesHigher mattings and review grants and financing options for each
Test typeThey usually combine weighted components with disposal partsMore variety: interview and hearing, portfolio, aptitude exam
Input frequencyVaria: ASAB admitted every semester and Univalle once a yearVaria: The Forest admitted every semester
CuposLimited. Univalle warns explicitly.According to programme

A public can be the way to study without debt and a private person can have just the emphasis that you seek. To introduce you to more than one (for example, a public and a private) is a sensible strategy, as long as dates and evidence allow you to.

How to choose your music race

  1. Define your goal. Do you want to play at an orchestra, compose, teach at a school, production songs? The goal tells you what title and what emphasis to seek.
  2. Read the curriculumSee how many semesters of instrument, assembly and theory includes.
  3. Compare the evidence with your profile. If you have been listening, an aptitude exam as [The Andes]](/blog/admision-musica-universidad-de-los-andes) can better suit one with harmonic and counterpoint analysis.
  4. Check that your instrument will be offered. Not all universities have every instrument and every emphasis.
  5. Calculates times and costs: duration (several of the revised programs have ten semesters), registration, transport and, if you move town, maintenance.
  6. Talk to students and graduates and, if you can, attend high-level faculty concerts.

Choose what you choose, you will require solid theory, listening and reading. To organize your studio, check how to get ready for music admissions testIn. Frequently asked questions

How long does a music race last in Colombia?

Several of the revised programs last ten semesters, such as the Bachelor's degree in Music of Pedagogics, Javeriana's Music Studies or Music at Univalle and others last less, as The Red's Music Formation (9) or Music at the University of Antioquia (8). It confirms the duration of each program in its official form.

Can I study music at university if I have never been to class?

Legally enough with the title of bachiller and knowledge 11, but in practice the tests have been put up with prior training. The sensible thing to do is to have a class or a preparatory before presenting, and to have an aptitude examination program if you have been listening.

The SENA's offering a music race?

The SENA has programs such as the Technician with a functioning instrument. It's technical training for work, not a university degree as a Master or Bachelor of Music.

What's the best university to study music?

It depends on what you're looking for: your instrument, the emphasis, the type of proof, the cost and the town. Compare curricula, listen to concerts from every faculty and, if you can, talk with students before deciding.
