Simple and composite compasses

The bar says how many pulses each group has and what figure a pulse is worth. At single compas (2 / 4, 3 / 4, 4 / 4) the pulse is a black and divided into two clocks. At the compounds (6 / 8, 9 / 8, 12 / 8) the pulse is a black with a tipstick and divided into three clocks. The broken bar (2 / 2) counts white: two pints with an extensive pounding.

Colombian rhythms with the metronome

Each rhythm has its own page with the compass, a reference tempo and accents ready to practice: bambuco, pasillo, guabina, cumbia, porro, walk with vallenate, joropo and currulao. At the bamboo and the joctopus you can go from 6 / 8 to 3 / 4 without changing the clocks's velocity to feel the sesquialtera.

Subdivisions: what's the use of each

  • Corcheas: Two clicks by pulse. They help to place backlashes and to avoid running at slow passages.
  • Tresillos: 3 clicks by pulse in single compas. They serve for swing, shuffle and any passage in 3 pieces.
  • Semicorcheas 4 clicks per pulse. They are the safety net for quick pics and passages: if a note goes ahead, you hear it right away.

When the passage's already clear with subdivision, remove it: the goal is that the inner pulse will be with you.

How to find the tempo of a song

Play the song and play Tap tempo At the rhythm of his pulse, as if his foot had been tipped four to six times in a row. The metronomer averages his time between his touches and gives you the BPM. If his song is 6 / 8 or with his share, select that beacon first and mark his long pulses, and not all his clocks.

Three training exercises with methonomics

  • The pulse at 2 and 4: put the metronome at half the tempo and feel every click as the second and fourth time, as in jazz and pop.
  • Stretch with a foot: It's a difficult passage to a comfortable tempo, 4 BPM up every time it's clear 3 times and low 8 if it's broken up.
  • Methonomic silence: count four clicked and four without him. When you listen to him again, you should fall right into time.

Frequently asked questions

What's an MWB?

BPM means pulses per minute (beats per minute). At 60 BPM sounds a pulse every second, at 120 BPM, two per second.

Why doesn't the metronomer sound on my phone?

Check that the multimedia volume is up and that the silent mode isn't activated. On iPhone, the silence switch can block the sound of the web pages.

Can you practice 6 / 8's?

Yes: select 6 / 8 at the bar selector. The metronomer counts two pulses with black with pounding by bar and with the branch with clordes listen to the 6 clordes. Also you have 9 / 8 and 12 / 8.

How do I change accents?

Touch every point of the time row: move from strong to soft and to none. Thus you can mark, for example, 1 strong and 3 soft at 4 / 4, or remove all accents with the box "Turn up times."

What's the tap tempo?

It's a way to measure the tempo of a song: it plays the button at the pulse's rhythm several times in a row and the metronomer calculates BPM from time between touches.

How much do I have to get up the tempo every day?

A little by little: from 2 to 5 BPM while you have been playing the clear passage three times in a row. We explain this in our [guide to practice with a methonomer]](/blog/como-usar-el-metronomo-para-practicar).
